Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree 
  • 2 years’ experience in a market-facing business development or sales role
  • Proficiency working with Salesforce and other CRM tools
  • Self-starter with excellent listening, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for the innovation economy
  • Relationship builder and networker with strong professional presence and ability to hold meaningful dialogue with C-level executives
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to successfully collect, manage, and share knowledge across teams to support efficient business development and growth


Preferred Requirement:

  • 2 years' or significant experience working in the venture capital and/or entrepreneurial ecosystem in a market-facing sales or business development role


What will your day look like?
The Business Development Specialist will work closely with our attorneys to support the building and nurturing of key relationships in the innovation ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Client Acquisition, this position is mentored by an elite team of former VCs and experienced business development executives and work closely with the Senior Marketing Manager.


The Business Development Specialist is an ecosystem builder by growing relationships and strategic partnerships and raising awareness of DLA Piper. This role cultivates and engages a community of entrepreneurs, investors, partners and other stakeholders and finds meaningful ways to make connections to our attorneys. This position serves as a resourceful connector who can help us find great companies and founders through establishing and maintaining a broad network of relationships with potential partner sources (e.g., venture capital funds, startup founders, industry technology leads) by attending key events and surfacing new client leads. Working with a larger team of attorneys and business development professionals, this position provides a key role in establishing DLA Piper as a “partner of choice.”


As a Business Development Specialist, you will gain introductions to prospective clients and engage DLA Piper attorneys where appropriate. You will build knowledge and understanding of our clients and capabilities to drive awareness and interest in DLA Piper and contribute to sourcing, developing and maintaining strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. You will also work closely with business development, marketing and in-market attorneys to execute on key components of DLA Piper’s go to market plan.


You will support the development of partnerships, events and collaborations in the Northern California market, as well as support market facing activities that attract and engage prospective clients, influencers and referral sources. In coordination with the Senior Marketing Manager based in San Francisco, you will maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, industry conferences, programs, appearances, and other market engagement opportunities. You will track, measure, analyze, and report on the success of activities with key stakeholders.

In accordance with California’s Pay Transparency Law, the pay range for this position, if hired to work in California, is $71,995 - $100,000. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications.
