This position is located in our Chicago office and offers a hybrid work opportunity.

Paralegals are a critical part of DLA Piper’s client service teams, working side by side with lawyers, co-counsel and clients on an array of substantive client matters. Most of our paralegals are career professionals. They work independently and on teams, locally, nationally and globally.

The paralegal team includes Case Assistants, Paralegals, Senior Paralegals and Paralegal Specialists. Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate
  • 3 years' experience supporting a Commercial Real Estate practice group in a law firm environment
  • Title and survey experience
  • Experience forming entities and drafting basic entity organizational documents
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and matter management skills


Preferred Requirements:

  • Large firm experience
  • Experience with complex legal documents and multi-party closings
  • Experience with land use concepts and/or manufactured housing projects
  • Experience with creating organizational charts in Microsoft PowerPoint 


What will your day look like?

You will be responsible for ordering, reviewing, and analyzing title commitments, documents, surveys, zoning reports and local and municipal compliance letters.  This will include careful and thorough analysis of complex real estate documents and drafting summaries of documents such as CC&Rs, REAs, development agreements and similar documents.  You will assist in drafting real estate documents, preparing closing documents, conducting due diligence reviews and coordinating closings as required for commercial real estate transactions. You will develop, monitor, and update closing and other checklists for real estate transactions. You will also form LLCs, partnerships, and corporations, and draft organizational documents, authority certificates and resolutions.

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements 
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
