Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate 
  • 10 years’ Paralegal experience in Patent Litigation
  • Experience managing an IPR case from start to finish 
  • Knowledge on how an ITC case is handled from institution to hearing, including how to file and calendar relevant deadlines
  • Strong trial experience including pretrial disclosures and in-courtroom experience 
  • Proficient in cite-checking by shepardizing cases in Westlaw and/or Lexis, quote checking for accuracy and proofreading for typos
  • Understanding of litigation life cycle for both sides, specifically patent litigation (filing complaint, discovery, motion practice, trial and appeal) 
  • Ability to handle substantive projects, cases and transactions under the direction of a lawyer
  • Strong writing skills and ability to draft complex legal documents
  • Ability to locate and research information applicable to a particular matter, person, regulation, transaction, through online research, document review and due diligence
  • Solid understanding of Federal, State and local rules of procedure as well as court filing procedures, electronic and hard copy
  • Advanced knowledge of Relativity database and TextLaw
  • Experience conducting patent searches on PTO website 
  • Ability to search Federal Register Notices for Section 337 investigations
  • Willing to Travel and work overtime as needed

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience coordinating out of town trials with trial vendors and lodging 

 

What will your day look like?
As a Paralegal Specialist – Patent Litigation, you will prepare the first draft of discovery requests and responses and draft simple pleadings and/or assists attorneys with major motions and filings. You will perform cite-checking, fact checking, and Blue Booking of legal memoranda and Sherardizing cases. You will bring experience with preparation related to witness interviews, hearings, depositions, trials, arbitrations or mediation. You will review, organize and maintain document databases for case tracking, discovery and document productions and utilize legal software such as Relativity and litigation technology including eDiscovery and data rooms.


You will have an advanced understanding of Federal, State, and local rules or procedures as well as court filing procedures, both electronic and hard copy. You will eFile documents in State and Federal Courts and coordinate service of same. You will locate and review information applicable to a particular case, person or subject via online research or document reviews, assist in the preparation of pretrial motions, trial binders, trail exhibits, etc., and assists with drafting motions, discovery requests and responses.


You will attend and assist attorneys at depositions, hearings, trials or arbitrations, prepare subpoenas and coordinate service of process, and research legal issues and prepare memoranda of findings. You will conduct document searches and creates electronic files/folders in Relativity database, as well as create and maintain production and privilege logs and draft pro hac vice, protective order subscriptions and other ministerial pleadings and motions. You will also manage data rooms and matter files. You will act as the lead paralegal managing cases and guide other paralegals and case assistants.
