Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 years of payroll experience to include processing general ledger account reconciliations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with staff as well as federal, state, and local tax agencies
  •  Strong attention to detail to enter, verify and process large amounts of payroll data
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to effectively handle and resolve employee inquiries and issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Requirements:

  • College coursework in accounting or finance 
  • PeopleSoft and Kronos systems 
  • Payroll tax experience to include processing payroll tax payments as well as quarterly and annual payroll tax returns 


What will your day look like?

As a Payroll Specialist, you will maintain a payroll system and processes biweekly payroll for multiple entities with the firm, including but not limited to new hire tax form processing, local taxes, Kronos timekeeping input, general deduction set-up, terminations, and garnishment processing.  You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, process and remit pay period tax payments, and process quarterly and annual tax filings, including W-2s.  You will enter new tax forms, direct deposit, and general deductions, verify the information for new hires in PeopleSoft, and create pay sheets and upload any personal charges.


Additionally, you will load Kronos file for time worked for employees and checks for accuracy, reviewing historical edits and make changes accordingly, and set up payroll schedules in Kronos.  You will conduct a final review of payroll data, send direct deposit information to the bank and, send information to other outside vendors as appropriate. You will research and analyze payroll/tax discrepancies and process appropriate corrections. You will research and interpret federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and resolve tax withholding, garnishment, and wage/hour issues for payroll processing. 

You will perform quarterly and annual balancing of wage and tax reports, find and correct errors in a timely manner to ensure accuracy of payroll tax withholding, minimizing potential penalties. 


You will calculate and set up garnishment, levies, and family court orders.  You will provide data for auditors and local, state, or federal agencies as needed, file support documentation, respond to employee questions in a timely manner, and communicate with supervisors and employees regarding missing, incorrect, or incomplete timesheets.
