Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • 5 years' of payroll experience to include processing general ledger account reconciliations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with staff as well as federal, state, and local tax agencies
  • Strong attention to detail to enter, verify and process large amounts of payroll data
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to effectively handle and resolve employee inquiries and issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment


Preferred Requirements:

  • College coursework in accounting or finance 
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft and Kronos systems 
  • Payroll experience to include an understanding of federal, state and local tax withholding requirements and final pay laws


What will your day look like?
As a Payroll Specialist, you will maintain a payroll system and process biweekly payroll, including but not limited to new hire tax form processing, including the set-up of employee state & local tax withholdings, Kronos timekeeping input, general deduction set-up, garnishment and final pay processing. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws. You will enter new tax forms and general deductions, verify the information for new hires in PeopleSoft, create pay sheets and upload any special earnings.


Additionally, you will load Kronos file for time worked for employees and check for accuracy, reviewing historical edits and make changes accordingly, as well as setting up payroll schedules in Kronos. You will conduct a final review of payroll data, send direct deposit information to the bank and send information to other outside vendors as appropriate. You will also research and analyze payroll/tax discrepancies and process appropriate corrections. You will research and interpret federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and resolve tax withholding, garnishment, and wage/hour issues for payroll processing. 


You will calculate and set up garnishment, levies, and family court orders. You will provide data for auditors and local, state, or federal agencies as needed, file support documentation, respond to employee questions in a timely manner and communicate with supervisors and employees regarding missing, incorrect, or incomplete timesheets.
