Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10 years’ experience performing and/or overseeing the variety of tasks associated with administrative risk management (conflicts searches, conflict analysis and resolution, and management of other issues such as anti-money laundering rules, sanctions lists, outside counsel guidelines) in a law firm 
  • 10 years’ experience managing staff and processes in a law firm environment
  • Experience with conflicts-related search tools and technologies
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and develop a large and geographically dispersed staff
  • Judgment and professionalism necessary to solve complex problems, with the ability to resolve issues and drive solutions
  • Self-starter with demonstrated instances of taking initiative and overseeing an organizational change in an effective manner
  • Creative thinker who is open to considering multiple approaches to issues, and working collaboratively with other leaders to develop and carry out plans
  • Detail-oriented and able to work quickly and accurately
  • Strong organizational skills to track and resolve a variety of issues in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate with all levels of attorneys and staff 
  • Availability and commitment to work outside normal business hours as needed.  Occasional travel.  
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products

What will your day look like?
As the Sr Director Conflicts, you will oversee and manage the administrative teams that comprise the firm’s risk management functions related to client intake and engagement.  You will report to the Office of General Counsel (OGC), and work closely with OGC lawyers to develop and implement risk management policies and procedures for the firm.  Your responsibilities will include oversight of protocols, technology, staffing, and functions to optimize service to the firm’s lawyers.  You will coordinate client intake and engagement with counterparts in DLA Piper International and other affiliated DLA Piper entities, when appropriate.


You will oversee all administrative components of the firm’s new business intake, conflicts identification, and resolution processes, provide leadership and overall management of geographically dispersed staff (evaluation and oversight of necessary hiring, training, performance management), and ensure cross-team collaboration and information sharing.  You will recommend modification of firm policies and procedures relating to risk issues in the areas of new business intake, and conflicts identification and resolution, and oversee implementation of any changes.  Your day will also include participating in assessment of new technologies relating to risk issues in the areas of new business intake, and conflicts identification and resolution, and oversee implementation.  You will develop and present training to attorneys and staff on new business intake and conflict processes.


Additionally, you will work collaboratively with administrative departments (e.g. IT, accounting, legal recruiting, and information governance) and practice group management to align business needs with internal intake and conflicts clearance policies and processes.  You will also oversee compliance with all conflicts processes and policies across the firm, identify and address any non-compliance in coordination with OGC.  You will recommend any necessary improvements to internal controls and governance processes related to areas of risk to the firm involving client intake and engagement. You will also maintain and report appropriate metrics on the volume of requests/actions processed and time to process.
