The Raja Gaddipati Fellowship (RGF)
A Diversity Pipeline Initiative

DLA Piper’s Raja Gaddipati Fellowship identifies, mentors, and develops underrepresented, undergraduate students who aspire to careers in the law with the goal of improving diversity in the legal industry. The six-week, paid summer internship is designed to give students a broad view of what it is like to work in a large law firm and encourage them to begin developing professional networks. The 2019 program will be hosted in our Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. offices and is scheduled to run from Monday, June 10 to Friday, July 19, 2019. 

The target candidate is someone who 1) is from an underrepresented group; 2) will be a rising senior the summer of the program; 3) is performing well academically; and 4) has demonstrated a genuine interest in attending law school. 

Interested and qualified candidates must submit the following for consideration: résumé; official/unofficial school transcript; 2 letters of recommendation; and a cover letter stating their interest in the internship. Applications will be accepted through February 15, 2019. Only complete submissions will be reviewed. Please note that expenses, such as relocation, housing, or transportation fees, are the responsibility of the intern. Internships will be awarded to six individuals and will be announced April 1, 2019.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled in a degree program – a preference will be given to those focused on law or law-related field 
  • Must be in your senior year of undergraduate study by Fall 2019
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Good organizational skills 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient MS Office skills

What will your internship experience include?
Your internship will include a variety of tasks providing you a broad view of the different types of work in a large law firm environment. Each day may find you working with different employees of DLA including, lawyers, paralegals, and staff. Your work day may include working on legal assignments, visiting a client with an attorney, attending court, attending local legal-based events, visiting local government entities, or visiting locally-based organizations.
